As soon as the air temperature drops, the pike or salmon leaves their homes and the period of autumn begins. In the first month, she spends more time on the surface and throws herself at any offered bait, and closer to November she sinks to her usual depth. Autumn fishing is not only high efficiency, but also comfort.
In autumn, when the water becomes cold, the pike prepares for the winter season. It is this period of time that many anglers look forward to. The second period just falls in October, when the pike is actively feeding.
Fishing the sea pike
The sea pike feeds especially actively, the fish comes to feed almost in shallow water up to 0.5 meters deep. At this time, pike can be caught wearing waders or from a boat. Especially pikes like rocky dumps with a light bottom. Well, when large stones “stick out” of the water, this means that the fish is right there.
Equipment for pike fishing is quite simple. Spinning, 2.40 – 2.70 meters long, with which you can throw a 15-30 gram fishing lures. When fishing from the shore, spinning and reel can be more powerful. This allows you to make long casts. When fishing from a boat, you can use the same spinning and reel or less powerful ones.
The cord is wound with a diameter of 0.15 – 0.20 mm or 0.30 – 0.32 mm fishing fly line. In autumn, when the water is already cold, the fish evaluates the potential prey, which will take less energy to catch. Therefore, it is worth using large oscillating baubles, which should be carried out as slowly as possible, barely touching the bottom. If fishing takes place in shallow water, light weight, but large lures are best suited.
Zander fishing in the autumn
Since mid-September, zander begins to feed actively. This period lasts from a month – one and a half to the first frost. The most active period is when maple leaves begin to turn yellow. There were years when pike perch was especially voracious in the morning, immediately after the first night cold. In autumn, in autumn, mainly for spinning, walleye are caught on the Emajõgi River and fishing takes place with silicone bait.
There are fewer donks and even fewer trolling. In autumn, zander fishing is the same technique as in summer. The only difference is that the water becomes more transparent. This changes the color of the silicone bait from bright colors to more natural ones. Fishing for zander on the Emajõgi River requires specific equipment.
The spinning rod can be 2.70 or 3.00 meters long, with a test that will withstand casting 18 – 30 grams of bait. How big a jig head or cheburashka to use depends on the water level in the river, the current and the depth of the fishing area. The cord is best suited 0.15 – 0.18 mm, with a fluorocarbon leader (leash), 25-40 cm long and 0.45-0.50 mm in diameter.
Autumn zander fishing is the most successful in the places of dumps, where shallow water breaks from a couple of meters to 4-5 meters. Very often zander like places near deep holes. When fishing from a boat, an echo sounder and the ability to read visible information from the screen are of great help.
What about a salmon fishing?
Autumn is practically the only time of the year when it is possible to catch the king of all fish – salmon. The first salmon enter the Narva River immediately after Midsummer Night. However, most of the fish arrive at the spawning grounds in September and October. Active spawning usually begins in late October and early November.
At this time, fishing is prohibited in most rivers (except for the Narva and Jagala rivers). Quite often in autumn you can catch salmon weighing 7-8 kg. Depending on the width of the river, spinning can be 2.70-3.30 meters long, with a dough of 50-60 grams. The reel has to cope with sharp bites and jerks of fish. Cord or fishing line with dough up to 10 kg. Of course, all other equipment should correspond to this fishing – tees, spinners, carabiners, clockwork rings, etc.
When fishing for spinning in rivers, you should start casting from deep places (big fish in the rivers are very crowded). First of all, you need to find a place with a calm current, rocky places – where the fish likes to rest. Quite promising places are pits with a slow current or a deep segment with a slow current, as well as river bends. The tactic of fishing is to tease the fish near the spawning ground. Salmon drive potential enemies away from such places.
All in all
When choosing spinners, they pay more attention to bright, aggressive colors. Spinners work best at the beginning of the season and are reacted by fish that have just entered the river. But the longer the fish is in the river, the better the wobblers start to work. If fishing takes place on a dropshot, then flies of suitable size are used as bait.
